Nine Beauty Founders Share Their New Year’s Resolutions and Tips For A Happier, Healthier 2023, Part I


While the saying ‘new year, new you’ may be a bit cliché, closing out the calendar year with a self audit to take stock of what's truly important in our lives and to set intentions for the future is something we can definitely get on board with.

The best resolutions are those that benefit both your physical and emotional health–so, out with the old and anything that doesn’t serve you well, and in with the new rituals and practices that nourish the body and mind. 

For inspiration, we turned to some of our favorite brand founders to find out what resolutions they are making for the year ahead. Whether it’s something as simple as reconnecting with nature, trying new recipes or taking time out to read more–here, some inspiration for our own lists. 

We’re so thrilled that several of our amazing brand founder partners were willing to share their thoughts with us. We wanted to keep the good New Year’s vibes going, so we’re bringing you founders’ resolutions in a two part series. Part I, below. 


April Gargiulo, Founder of Vintner’s Daughter

"I am not one for resolutions, but something that I have been thinking about a lot lately is the power of connection. Whether it be to oneself, to community, or to nature, I find myself searching out moments to connect in a deeper, more satisfying way. Even as I am applying my skincare, I consider it a moment of connection to my physical self of course but also to the extraordinary plants at the heart of each of our formulas. It's partly about applying a more focused lens of intentionality to my daily routines, but also committing to fostering new opportunities to connect. Nature, for me, is an endless source of truth and elegance and I never cease to be inspired and amazed. Hopefully my new year will begin in the woods, surrounded by trees with my family feeling deep connection and gratitude."


Alison Carroll, Founder of Wonder Valley

“My resolution for 2023 is a full body tune-up! I just had a baby in October, a beautiful little girl, and comically broke my foot two weeks before she arrived. I’m limping to the finish line of 2022 and want to prioritize my health and find some equanimity going into 2023. For me, this looks like mindful daily choices around movement, diet, hydration, supplements, meditation and frequent visits to an acupuncturist. Also, daily baths. We have a simple but wonderful outdoor bathhouse at our home in Joshua Tree with an expansive view of the high desert and boulders around the home. I usually splash some of our Hinoki Body Oil in the bathwater, which is the next best thing to bathing in a cedar tub in Japan. I like to bring a pot of tea with me and use this time for a face and hair mask, or bring a book along. Consistency and daily actions are key for me to find some balance for my mental and physical health.”


Gucci Westman, Founder of Westman Atelier

"My husband and I have done a reset in January for the past 15 years. It starts with the "Clean Cleanse" by Alejandro Junger. You remove dairy, alcohol, sugar, caffeine, and complex carbs from your diet. It has been successful in making my husband David vegan for the month! It allows us for a solid reset and time to reevaluate our habits. I also try to implement things that make me feel better–such as not skipping my meditation. I try to double up and do as much mindful activity as possible. Extra exercise, extra reading, extra skincare. Focusing especially on wellness during the month of January, I take full advantage!"

“14th Night is a manifestation of the beauty secrets passed down to me from my Persian ancestors. They were so passionate about clean beauty and finding the most luxurious botanicals abundant in nature to enhance their own radiance.
