Introducing Susanne Kaufmann: The Sustainable Skincare Brand Inspired by the Austrian Alps

Founded in 2003, Susanne Kaufmann’s eponymous line was inspired by her heritage, namely, her great-great-grandfathers’ Hotel Post Bezau (which she now runs), established in 1850 and located high in Austria’s Bregenz Forest. It was while sourcing products for the hotel spa’s all-natural treatments that her search came up short, so she set about creating her own line that would incorporate locally-sourced, botanical ingredients such as rosemary, horse chestnut and chamomile. Word soon got out about the luxe range of skin, body, and hair care products designed to support the skin’s natural functions and the brand was launched into the spotlight.

The power of nature forms the cornerstone of Kaufmann’s beauty, health, and wellbeing philosophy, along with the traditions and knowledge surrounding the healing power of plants that have been passed down for generations in the Bregenzerwald region. “Unique, powerful plants such as arnica, chamomile, marigold, lavender, and rosemary are found in abundance here and can withstand the harsh weather conditions of The Alps, free from pollution,” says Kaufmann. The line features Alpine plants and botanical blends carefully chosen for their efficacy and skin affinity (even the water in the products comes from a natural spring in the Bregenzerwald), combined with the latest scientific developments and pioneering biotechnologies to bring proven skin benefits.

Commitment to sustainability also runs through every element of the brand’s production process: their cutting edge production facilities are powered by solar and thermal energy and their elegant, signature packaging is made from recycled glass. "For me, terms like ‘clean’ and ‘natural’ go much further than the high-quality, natural, and effective ingredients,” says Kaufmann. “It should also encompass environmentally friendly production, sustainable packaging innovation and manufacturing processes, and a deep respect for nature and people."

Here, four of our favorite Susanne Kaufmann products.
