Celebrate Earth Day with clean, sustainable beauty brands that go above and beyond.
Earth Day may come around just once a year, but we should have the health of our planet front of mind year-round. That’s why we are proud to say that at Onda Beauty, every day is Earth Day.
The beauty industry has long been one of the worst offenders in polluting the earth and depleting precious natural resources, which is why clean, sustainable beauty is so important. We don’t have to sacrifice self-care, we simply need to make better choices when it comes to the ingredients and products that we use and the brands that we buy. Fortunately, the ever-growing clean, green, and blue beauty movement means that we don't have to compromise our health or the health of the planet any longer.
We take great pride in the time and effort we put into our curation, seeking out products and brands that align with our values and empower all of us to make better choices effortlessly. Aside from seeking out products with ingredients that have been proven safe to human health, we demand transparency and a commitment to be kind to the earth and its inhabitants, and to use its resources more wisely. That’s why you can be confident that all of our brands are doing their part for the planet, whether through employing more eco-friendly and ethical actions when sourcing ingredients, offering innovative recyclable packaging solutions, or implementing environmentally-focused initiatives and programs that benefit both people and the planet.
We are constantly inspired by our community of founders and the transformational products they create that make us happier and healthier, and our world a better place. Here, six of our bestselling sustainable beauty brands that give back all year long.
Costa Brazil
Founded by Brazilian-born designer Francisco Costa, Costa Brazil is a sustainable beauty line built on the simple belief that the spirit of beauty is inseparable from the health of the earth. The brand partners with Conservation International and works closely with the organization to safeguard forests and preserve natural resources in the Brazilian region of the Amazon, while helping Costa Brazil to establish responsible sourcing practices at its origin. Conservation International also receives a portion of the proceeds from each product that Costa Brazil sells, which supports the organization’s initiative that plants 75,000 trees in the Amazon each year.
Rahua
This sustainable haircare brand, formulated with Rahua Oil derived from the Ungurahua nut that grows in the Amazonian rainforest, was created to preserve and honor unique cultural rituals and traditional, sustainable ways of life that protect the rainforest and its people. The brand’s founders are also the founders of Ecoagents, a nonprofit organization committed to preserving the natural environment of the Amazon rainforest by empowering the local indigenous communities. Rahua’s preservation work has produced legal tools for full protection and preservation of roughly 150,000 acres of pristine primary rainforest. These forests sequester 5 tons of CO2 per acre per year, totalling 750,000 tons of CO2 per year, making Rahua a carbon neutral company.
Biossance
Every product in this pioneering sustainable skincare brand is powered by Squalane, the patented, vegan and sustainable alternative to Squalene–a biomimetic moisturizer that was historically harvested from shark livers. This bioengineered Squalane is not only purer and more effective, but also saves 2 million sharks per year from poaching. Biossance also partners with Oceana, an international advocacy organization focused solely on ocean conservation. The brand has donated more than $300,000 to Oceana and adopted more than 5,000 sharks, helping to support bans on shark finning, species-specific management plans, and reducing deaths from bycatch.
Osea
This award-winning seaweed-infused sustainable skincare brand has been leading the clean beauty charge since 1996, prioritizing naturally-derived ingredients backed by scientific research. As a brand inspired by the Ocean, Sun, Earth and Atmosphere (hence the name “Osea”), the company is driven by a duty to protect those elements. As one of the first Climate Neutral Certified brands, each year the company calculates their total carbon emissions across all sectors of the business and offsets it by funding sustainability projects. They are also an Ocean Positive verified brand, working with SeaTrees to regenerate blue carbon coastal ecosystems and ocean health globally.
Necessaire
This cult line of “necessary” body care products formulated with facial-grade ingredients puts sustainability at the forefront. As a 1% For The Planet partner, Necessaire allocates 1% of all sales to environmental non-profits fighting to defend our air, land, water, and wildlife world-wide. Among the brand’s cause partners are Wild Philanthropy, a charitable foundation designed to protect at-risk ecosystems and support vulnerable communities in Africa; Save the Yellowstone Grizzly, which fights for the survival of grizzly bears in the lower 48 states; and the Northern Jaguar Project, which works to safeguard jaguars in the U.S.-Mexico region from poaching and habitat destruction.
Innersense
This professional clean hair care line combines clean chemistry, radical transparency, and a commitment to the environment with luxurious formulas that hydrate, nourish, and revitalize all hair types. Innersense partners with 1% For The Planet to support cause partners including the California Coastkeeper Alliance, an organization that uses law, policy, science, and advocacy to keep California’s water, oceans, and coast healthy and accessible. From coastal clean ups, to speaking out against offshore oil drilling, to pressing for action to address climate change and promote coastal resilience, California Coastkeeper Alliance is on the frontlines and a passionate ally for sustainable haircare brands.
